About Us

Our Purpose

Good Shepherd Institute seeks to discern the role of evil in human suffering and to respond redemptively in the name of Jesus Christ.

Our Name

In John 10, Jesus offers His only recorded distinction between a bad shepherd and a good shepherd.

Jesus pictures a bad shepherd as one who runs when the wolf appears, cares nothing for the lambs, works only for money and seeks his own safety above that of his flock's.

A good shepherd cares for the flock, stands his ground in the presence of danger and defends the lambs against predators, even if it costs him everything.

Good Shepherd Institute seeks to stand in the face of evil (the wolf), to care for God's people (the lambs), and to fight Satan's attacks (as shepherds), regardless of the cost. Our model is Jesus Himself, who was the Good Shepherd and laid down His life for the sheep.

I am the good shepherd.
The good shepherd lays down His life for the sheep.
The hired hand is not the shepherd who owns the sheep.
So when he sees the wolf coming, he abandons the sheep and runs away.
Then the wolf attacks the flock and scatters it.
The man runs away because he is a hired hand and cares nothing for the sheep.
I am the good shepherd.

For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.

Our Methods

Good Shepherd Institute recognizes and appreciates the place of conventional counseling, therapy, psychiatric and medical intervention in the treatment of human suffering. We welcome partnerships with these disciplines in a quest for healing the whole person.

GSI also recognizes the role of evil in much human suffering. Satanic and demonic spirits often hide beneath the facade of other presenting symptoms. GSI's specific contribution to the healing process is to identify this spiritual component and to address it in such ways as to identify and expose it, then defeat and neutralize it in the empowerment of Jesus Christ.

These ways include self-help guidance, deliverance/exorcism, the spiritual cleansing of objects and places, prayer and prayer walking, education, training and referral.

GSI embraces the use of spiritual gifts, as described in scripture. We acknowledge as timeless and normative the example Christ set in confronting and defeating the demonic.  We affirm divine healing.

GSI serves individuals, families, churches, clergy and other professional caregivers in direct personal ministry, consultation and training.
